Every text on this site comes from a source whose licence allows us to show it. This page names each source and its licence.

The Quran

The verse text is the Uthmani text, version 1.1, of the Tanzil Project, under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence. We show it verbatim. We search a copy of Tanzil’s Simple-Clean text. The Arabic sura names come from Tanzil’s Quran metadata, also under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. The English names are our transliteration; the Turkish names are written after the naming in the Diyanet’s Kur’an-ı Kerim Meali.

Hadith texts and narrator chains

The Arabic text of the hadith and the narrator tags come from Sanadset 650K: Mghari, Mohammed; Bouras, Omar; El Hibaoui, Abdelaaziz (2022), “Sanadset 650K: Data on Hadith Narrators”, Mendeley Data, V5, doi: 10.17632/5xth87zwb5.5, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Our changes to the text shown, each with the number of places it changed:

We removed the verse references the dataset inserts after quoted verses, and the verse numbers it writes inside them: 4,354 places.
We kept once a transmission word the dataset writes twice in a row: 2,912 places.
We joined words its narrator tagging split, in the text and in the narrator names; a vowel sign the tagging cut off goes back on its letter, and is left out only where no letter there can carry it; one stuck to the front of a word was put where the printed page puts it: 2,938 places.
We removed the space its tagging leaves before punctuation: 1,022,531 places.
We kept once a vowel sign the dataset writes two or more times in a row on one letter: 1,477 places.
We kept once a comma or quotation mark the dataset writes twice in a row, and a comma left doubled where a Quran reference came out: 119 places.

We also removed the dataset’s markup tags, split each text into its chain and its wording, matched the records of eight books to the reference numbers sunnah.com uses (Musnad Aḥmad keeps Sanadset’s own numbers), grouped reports that appear in several books, and normalised a separate copy of the text for searching.

Translations and gradings

Translations of hadith texts, and the grades and references shown with them under the name HadeethEnc, come from HadeethEnc.com — Encyclopedia of Translated Prophetic Hadiths, by the Rowad Translation Center, published by the Islamic Propagation Office in Rabwah. We show them unchanged, as HadeethEnc’s usage policy allows, with each language’s version and a link to the full entry with its explanation.
